Big black marlin recap

We have two primetime vacancies for this upcoming 2018 big black marlin season. If you are interested in fishing with us, get in touch now!

Phil and Jen joined us for their bucket list fishing trip peak season in early-mid October 2017. And the trip certainly met and exceeded their expectations about big black marlin fishing on the Great Barrier Reef. Despite some pretty ordinary weather conditions, Phil and Jen enjoyed some fantastic fishing with 9 marlin released during the trip.

The first day of the trip we were straight out of the block.  Returning to where we’d had some success the day before in the Middle Ribbons we caught three fish for the day including a big black marlin that Luke estimated at 900lbs for Phil which turned out to be our first marlin for the day.  Phil and Jen had previously agreed that if it was a big one that Phil would take it and so as Jen was getting ready to jump in the chair I suggested Phil might want to take this one (having seen the bite!) We didn’t see the fish again for a while until Phil was able to get it boatside for release and it was indeed a real nice one ! (Watch the video of this fish here.)

But if we thought that was the end to big fish, the next day we release one even bigger. I’ve finally found a space of time to edit the video (below) of Phil’s second big black marlin. This one (as you can hear in the video) Luke called at over a grand — he put it at 1100lbs on Number 10 Ribbon Reef.

Later in the trip we caught another nice one, this time for Jen that Luke put at 800lbs.  What a trip! Video of Jen’s big black marlin to come!
