Light Tackle Black Marlin Fishing Update

Some photos from our last couple of outings on KEKOA.

The light tackle black marlin fishing in Cairns and Townsville has been pretty consistent. Our last day out with Ken yesterday we released four black marlin.  Luckily, as Ken was the only angler on board, KEKOA’s master boat builder Peter O’Brien of O’Brien Boat’s came along for the ride, and since we caught two double headers, he was soon put to work along side Ken on the rod.  Pete is just as handy on the rod as always!

Previously Jason had joined Ken for two blacks and a sail – trying his hand a light tackle fishing for a change (and catching his very first sailfish). And last weekend Steve, Troy and Ray started off our Townsville season teaming up to raise 7, switch 5 and release 4.

KEKOA is currently in Townsville gearing up for the Mike Carney Toyota Billfish Challenge which starts this Friday.  The water has cleaned up considerably over the past couple of days and there was plenty of bait to be found yesterday.  And with some great results coming out of the Cairns BlueWater Billfish Tournament on the weekend, it should be a good competition off Townsville too.
