KEKOA has just wound up another successful Townsville Billfish Challenge. With tournament major sponsor Mike Carney on board again, we were only just pipped at the post on the last day’s fishing to come Runner-up in the Over 8m Champion Boat Category with Mike taking out Champion Angler award for the second year running.

The weather was kind to us this year and the fishing started off pretty hot with 5 black marlin on the first day (unfortunately one just outside of cease fishing) for us and a very respectable 50 odd fish total for the fleet. And while it slowed a little with the moon and the tides over the consecutive days, it was great to see such a great turnout of fish and anglers!

KEKOA will head back out again on Friday for another week chasing the little blacks as well as mackerel and all the other great sportfishing species the reefs have to offer.  By late next week, we will begin the return journey to Cairns where we gear up for the giant black marlin season ahead.

Some photos from the tournament below. Mike released 6 black marlin, Chris caught two black marlin and a sailfish, while Nigel added the one to his black marlin tally.
