Cairns Marlin Season: Art & Susan’s Lucky Charms

We have many people from all walks of life fish with us and bring all sorts of lucky charms with them. Art and Susan are a true fishing couple who fish all over the world….and always bring with them a couple of lucky charms in the form of Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick figurines who watch over the baits all day.

So far its worked with 6 marlin in the first three days of fishing at 150, 350, 400, 500, 550 and 800lbs.  Susan has the big fish on the board so far with an 800lb model that gave an amazing display of power on Day 1. But not to be outdone (never!) Art gave us the thrill of the fishing thus far, yesterday pitching the 50lb standup gear to a fish about 500lbs that came up on the teaser.  An awesome bite on the pitch bait just metres from the transom, followed by an exciting fight, punching straight into the seas for about 40minutes and getting drenched in the process with some fantastic greyhounding jumps away before she was on the leader. What a great effort Art – well done!

We’ve been seeing the big fish every day, and had the bite out of another real nice one about lunchtime yesterday. Hopefully some more today!

I’ll get some more photos up soon – but in the meantime, here’s Susan’s fish from Day 1 in a dual perspective. Top is a shot of her fish taken by Mike Tarmey fishing on board Black Label nearby. Bottom is my photo, from the same series of jumps, from on board KEKOA.
