Cairns giant black marlin season and 2019 wrap up!

Happy Holidays to you all from team KEKOA!🎄🎅🎄🎅

2019 wasn’t a standout for the fishing overall but we still had some great days fishing and plenty of fun along the way.

The Cairns marlin season was a season of big highs and big lows. For much of the early season the water was too cold and the fish just did not show up. Even later in the season when the conditions were better, the fish were patchy coming through in waves. Our best day heavy tackle black marlin for 2019 was 5 released including two big ones (and this one definitely my favourite fish as photographer of 2019 above!). One of our regular clients Bart had an awesome start to his trip and notched up his first grander class black. The Bissaker Boys fished with us for their first time in early November 2019 and their trip was certainly one not to forget in a hurry. They were responsible for that big day mentioned with two beauties for Scott and Glen and then Mark followed up with a nice fish of his own a couple of days later. The trip total was 14 in 5 days of fishing. We also had several new guests from the USA join us in 2019 and although not every trip enjoyed the great fishing the reef can offer, everyone got a taste of it and we know we’ll see you back to have another go! Same with Alan and Graham from over the ditch in NZ who spend a bit of time on the water chasing blue marlin at home, really enjoying the black marlin experience. Graham also got a taste of a big fish fight with a 700lb-er in near perfect weather conditions fishing wide on a lure, and will be back to try again in 2020!

Thank you to all of our wonderful friends and guests who fished with us in 2019. As well as our fabulous crew. We look forward to doing it all bigger and better with you in 2020! Merry Xmas!
