We have KEKOA regular, Jason “The Hass” Hassett joining us on board again this week for our first live aboard of the Cairns giant black marlin season. And joining Jason again this year is son Josh for what is now his fourth year joining Hass on board with us. And Josh has brought along his mate Harrison to keep the tradition of introducing marlin fishing to a new generation alive.
So far both juniors have a marlin a piece under their belts. Josh started us out with a nice one on the first day. He’s come a long way after practicing with some smaller fish over the preceding years, he didn’t even hesitate to jump in the chair for this one which Capt. Luke called at 800lbs. Perfect angler for perfect fish – Josh gave him some, then the fish gave him some right back – a great fight and a few powerful jumps before Ben had her on the leader at the back of the boat for release.
Day two and Harrison had his go at two marlin! The first, a juvie black while bait fishing. And the second, the perfect starter fish of around 350lbs. Well done to you both!
