Kelly’s Success

Dec 4

The Ladies Ribbons certainly know how to have a good time! Starting with the ‘dress up’ for the sailpast, which soon progressed to a water balloon fight while we were waiting for the start, it was all go, right from the get go!  We didn’t need to dress KEKOA up, she looks sleek and sexy without any styling at all. We had helicopters flying overhead as Capt. Luke put her on the plane to run out to the grounds so we’ll be looking forward to seeing how that footage turned out!

Fishing with us for the first time in 2010 were Kelly Barnes and Katherine Thomas from Brisbane (Mooloolaba GFC). Despite suffering the effects of nasty bronchitis, Kelly hooked up early and fought and landed a foul hooked 25.2kg yellowfin tuna on 10kg line (after over an hour’s fight!).  This fish won Kelly the Heaviest Game Fish Trophy for the competition – congratulations Kelly!

Later, Katherine had two shots at blue marlin, on 15kg and 24kg but unfortunately we couldn’t stay connected. (And coming from a pretty good blue marlin bite down at home, Katherine hardly expected to be hooked up to not one, but two blues at a black marlin event!)

Overall a top day – hopefully Kelly and Kat will be fighting fit for next year’s event and we can give the billfish prizes a run then!
