The season of sunrises and sunsets is upon us! (Although we were sent off Cairns with a great one over Cape Grafton this morning!)
Hi everyone, yes the KEKOA blog lives.
Sorry I have been absent for some time (and I never did quite finish the marlin season reports did I?) but a lot has happened since then. Capt. Luke and I are now happily residing in our new home just south of Cairns, a short hop-skip and jump from Lake Tinaroo where Luke has been getting his does of off-season barramundi fishing and testing the new Raymarine sidescan units on the tenders. Testing is so vitally important you know and you’ll be happy to hear that the testing paid off with some really nice fish on the dam 😉 One of the said nice fish below.
But now our focus is back to the saltwater and the remote river systems of the Gulf of Carpentaria. We are on our way to the Gulf right now as I write, having had a short delay courtesy of Cyclone Nathan (which we will now refer to as the cyclone that never goes away!) Thankfully it is the calm after the storm and although we are only a few hours in, we are already enjoying some really good weather that is forecast all the way around the tip.
By this time next week, please look out for the fist of the Gulf sunrises and sunset pics (I don’t know why, but they are so spectacular on the west coast!) and of course some barramundi. We are looking forward to not only the spoils of the fishing (barra, jacks and threadies among the faves) but the mud crabs and gulf prawns. Oh and we have some more crocodile on board this year so lookout for some more ‘deadly spring rolls’ (and make it snappy lol!)
If you were thinking of making a late plans to join us this year in the Gulf, I have to tell you that we are unfortunately fully booked the whole way through. And we are already taking bookings for season 2016, so please get in contact if you are interested.
And after such a big marlin season in 2014, we are also running out of time for this year.
For light tackle for the juvenile black marlin, we have a few dates left in Cairns but only three days left in Townsville (Cape Bowling Green) where we are once again fishing the Townsville Billfish Challenge. This year we are also fishing the Cairns Bluewater Billfish Tournament (Fitzroy Island) and are very excited both to be involved and to be able to fish (in the past we have always been in Townsville and missed this one!)
For the giant black marlin season we have dates in late September and from November 27 only. And again 2016 is looking very busy and so if you are interested in joining us on board (and we’d love to have you join us!) its never too early to get in touch!
