Gulf Barra Season 2016 – its started!

I think that this pic of Scott, Dave and Ray from our more recent trip says it all. After six days on the water, three very tired yet very satisfied smiles.  Its been a great start to the season, and very satisfying to be finding the good quality fishing we are used to up here in the gulf, despite the distinct lack of a rainy season here again this year.

We have fished both north and south of Weipa so far this year and have had great trips in both directions. Plenty of numbers including single ‘sessions’ with in excess of 50 barramundi. Plus there have been plenty of threadfin salmon about. Luke had one session, on one spot, that he estimated they released close to 30 each of barra and threadies in a couple of hours of fishing!  Not much can top that!

The biggest fish of the season so far has gone to Steve casting a hardbody lure on a drain.  But there have been a few more close as well.

This week we will be fishing south due to the fact that the tides work good for down there and the Toyota boys are ready for a change having fished the Ducie River for the past several seasons. The week after we have Col and Kylie returning fresh from representing the Sunshine Coast GFC at the Offshore World Championships in Costa Rica.  Last year they fished the Archer River so are looking forward to meeting the Ducie and Wenlock River systems for the first time this year.

Just some of the pics from the first three weeks of fishing below.  If you’re interested in keeping up with what we are doing and what we are fishing on a more regular basis, follow us on Facebook, or keep your eye on Kelly’s Instagram feed.

We are fully booked for the rest of our 2016 Gulf barra season and already have several dates locked in for 2017 – so if you are interested in fishing with us next year, please get in touch now.
