Captain Luke Fallon

Captain Luke Fallon’s dream of a life on the sea started while day dreaming in the school classroom, and now 20 years on Luke has carved out a career, which has seen him become one of the most respected and successful captains chartering the East Coast of Australia.

Working the decks as a 16 year old for many of the regular Cairns Heavy Tackle captains such as Jim Dalling, Greg Edwards, Terry Parker, Bill Billson and the likes, enabled Luke to lay the foundation for his already successful career. His eye for detail, strong work ethic and enthusiasm left such an impression on the fishing fraternity that they had no doubt that Luke Fallon would start the next generation of successful skippers to fish the Great Barrier Reef

Luke’s gamefishing resume includes being at the helm of The Warrigal, Reef Hunter, Reel Easy 2 and 5 years on the Assegai. Throughout these times Luke has competed and been successful in many of the big game fishing tournaments along the coast from Lizard Island to Bermagui. Some of Luke’s highlights have been catching 9 big marlin in a single day heavy tackle fishing, and a career that has landed many fish close to and above 1000lbs, the biggest being a staggering1298lbs.

Meanwhile, in the marlin off season, Luke has spent many year guiding for barramundi – his second love. A metre plus barra is the inshore version of a grander marlin. Another of Luke’s highlights is 9 barra over a metre at crocodile creek in a single session.

Luke is now relishing the helm of his latest charge, the 47-foot custom built vessel KEKOA, coming from the already popular and very successful stable of O’Brien boats in Townsville, Australia, launched in 2006. And, in late 2009, Luke will take charge of the new KEKOA, a 56 O’Brien . Luke’s years of experience have been moulded into the design of both boats, working hands-on with the highly renowned boat building team of Peter and Leigh O’Brien ensuring that nothing is left to spare in producing the ultimate fishing weapon. With the long-range capabilities of the larger vessel, Luke will be steering KEKOA to more remote and far-reaching destinations in 2010 including trips to Weipa in the Gulf of Carpentaria (barramundi capital of Queensland), bringing this exciting fishery within easy reach of KEKOA’s valued clients.

Luke loves all things fishing and is an expert angler in his own right. When he’s not at the helm of KEKOA, you’ll most likely find him with the business end of a rod in hand! Luke spends so much time on the water he knows just where the fish are biting and to the benefit of our clients.
